“Love is the Christian’s badge” I can hear my Sunday school teacher, Rose Henry, saying some 50-years ago. If there were a theme to the Christian belief system, love would be it: Love for God, love for your neighbor, and love for yourself. The centerfold character and heart of the Christian faith--Jesus of Nazareth--is one who demonstrated this in one definitive act--He gave his life in the name of love (John 3:16). By all biblical accounts, Jesus’ example in both life and death was meant to show his followers what love does, and for the purposes of this book “how-to-love”.
According to the most recent Pew Report, church membership, nationwide, is in great decline such that believers and non-believers are finding other spiritual outlets and/or communities. How-to-Love: Following the Example of Jesus of Nazareth the Ultimate Postmodern Psychotherapy is the solution to the church’s dilemma, for it adds the missing component of practical, healing teaching to the traditional expository sermons and bible study applications. In this straightforward how-to book, I combine the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth with the therapeutic attitudes and behaviors of a postmodern family therapist, as they are essentially one and the same. I offer that Jesus is the ultimate postmodern psychotherapist because, like the systemic (relational/contextual) therapist, He was a relationship expert. Using biblical prose and family therapy practice, I provide Church leaders and their parishioners with vetted tools that will help them to exhibit the love of God, as modeled by the quintessential postmodern therapist, Jesus of Nazareth, the anointed one.
