The Bed

Each May the bed moves
to catch the breeze
between window and open door.
Each October it moves back
to its protected place
against the far wall.

The years grow shorter.
The bed barely stops at one place
before it returns to the other.
In ever shrinking years
it spins about the room
faster, faster.
