SPEAK STANDARD, TOO is an innovative standard English-acquisition program for older students and adults who speak nonstandard English dialects - such as Appalachian English or African American English Vernacular/Black English - or who speak foreign accented English. Its text and 5 CDs are used nationally as a per student set, a teacher-resource and/or as an adult self-help program for learning oral and written standard English as a second dialect. The SPEAK STANDARD, TOO program is appropriate and designed for nonstandard English-speaking students in middle school, high school, college, continuing education, tutoring and outreach programs, juvenile and prisoner-education programs and corporate training classes. SPEAK STANDARD, TOO teaches students to master oral standard English grammar and pronunciation - rule by rule - in a nonjudgmental, linguistically-based, oral curriculum. Subsequently, students learn how to monitor themselves so that they can switch back and forth between their first speaking styles and the new standard dialect, choosing the more appropriate dialect for each particular set of circumstances - similar to a bi-lingual program.
