Volume I of the series precisely explains the pattern organization of the guitar's fretboard which results from the instrument's unique tuning. All music played on the guitar, in a sense, gets filtered through the fretboard matrix of strings and frets, so it is essential to have an understanding of how the playing area of the instrument works. It is the one area which will be common to all the others you will learn. Fretboard Logic teaches it both as a completely separate area of musical education and as a prerequisite for more advanced learning.

In Fretboard Logic, Bill Edwards has produced a seminal work for guitar players everywhere, the significance of which is perhaps best appreciated in the voluminous testimonials weve received over the years. Fretboard Logic has been rated among the top 10 guitar methods of all time. From the Author:
Along the way in my guitar education, I realized that there were several things my teachers couldn't fully explain. Years later, while attempting to come to grips with difficult issues raised by my own students, it occurred to me that much could not be explained within the context of music per se. Once I was able to accept this, it wasn't long before I realized that unlike any other instrument, the pattern organization produced by the guitar's tuning system represents an entirely separate area of study from the typical educational requirements of other instrumentalists. Fretboard Logic is the result of having to change the way I looked at the guitar to account for complex issues that had gone unresolved ever since I was a student.
