This broad, useful guide to museums, historic houses, art galleries, libraries, and "special places open to the public" takes in the familiar Smithsonian Institution museums, etc., as well as less familiar places: the Museum of Modern Art of Latin America, Interior Department Museum, Clara Barton House. Each of the 50 entries is illustrated and provides the address, phone number, closest Metro stop, hours, admission cost, as well as information about handicapped and other facilities, research resources, etc. The author, a veteran travel writer and Washingtonian, selects collection highlights for those in a hurry, in addition to giving detailed histories and architectural descriptions for others.
