The Warminster mystery is fifty years old.
The mystery began as unusual sounds on the morning of Christmas 1964 and continued as a UFO flap until 1977. The locals called the unusual lights and sounds central to the mystery "the Thing". The memory of that mystery remained in the background of ufology throughout the years, even while other events took centre stage.
This book reviews what happened during the crazy, exciting years of the Warminster mystery. It is not a long list of the sighting reports; it is a short history of the events - the lights, the sounds - the media reports, and the characters that shaped the Thing. It is a history of the mystery.
8/10: Snappy and even-handed review of whatever it was... -- Fortean TimesBiografía del autor:
Steve Dewey and Kevin Goodman are both veterans of skywatching in Warminster. Both continue to be interested in the UFO phenomenon that occurred in Warminster. Steve Dewey is the co-author, with John Ries, of "In Alien Heat", a sceptical examination of the Warminster mystery. He is the editor of a collection of the short stories, poems and lyrics of John Ries, which was published after John's death. Steve has also released a short collection of poems, "Wiltshire Songs", in Kindle format. Kevin Goodman is the author, with Steve Dewey, of "UFO Warminster: Cradle of Contact", a history of the events that occurred to Kevin and his friends when they began visiting Warminster in the 1970s. They started out as skywatchers, but soon became entangled in the centre of the mystery as reluctant contactees. Steve and Kevin, separately and together, have been writing a series of novels - as yet unpublished - based on their knowledge of ufology and the kinds of people who are attracted to the paranormal and the irrational in small towns.
