In 1910, the brothers Andre and Edouard MIchelin commissioned Ernest Montaut's company to produced a series of ceramic tile panels representing Michelin's early motoring successes. The panels, incorporating illustrations prepared by the celebrated automotive artist Ernest Montaut were transformed into tiles by the Parisian ceramics company, Gilardoni et Cie, and were destined for the brothers new headquarters, Michelin House in the Fulham Road, London., itself a beautiful example of Art Nouveau architecture. The tile panels, 34 in all constitute possibly the finest complete collection of early motoring art, and can still be seen adorning what is no the famous Bibendum restaurant. in London.
