Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. 240 pages. Compiled by the editors of Combined Books. Previous owner's bookplate inside the front cover. This book is one of the handiest one-volume sources of information ever assembled, with serious, and surprisingly hard to find information and the nation and its people. Sections address Armies; Battles; Gettysburg; Casualties; Generals, Troops, Society; After the War; and The Civil War Today. Combined Publishing {formerly Combined Books] and its imprints publish primarily non-fiction military and military history books, and on occasion, general history books. They also distribute many other publishers' military titles. An invaluable source of Civil War facts, statistics, data, and trivia compiled from a wealth of histories, studies, accounts, and reminiscences. This wide variety of lists includes detailed Civil War topics of every description. Commanders from both sides of the conflict are ranked according to the best and worst ever to lead troops during the war. A selection of casualty figures demonstrates the enormous number of lives taken on the fields of the war's bloodiest battles. The composition of the armies is given in terms of state origin, ethnic background, and even average height of the troops. Lists also probe social issues such as the distribution of the African American and White populations, the elections of 1860 and 1864, and the songs and poems sung in the North and the South. Lists of the best books available on the Civil War provide a pathway through the mountainous literature on the subject and offer a basis for further study. More frivolous lists detail unusual unit nicknames, delicacies made from hardtack, the ugliest generals, and generals killed in personal encounters. Over 300 informative lists of facts and trivia including: Best Brigades, Best Regiments, Ten Best and Worst Commanded Battles of the War, Ten Most Evenly Matched Battles, Top Turning Points of the War, State, Division, and Brigade Strengths and Losses at Gettysburg, Bloodiest and Least Bloody Battles, Regiments with Greatest Total Casualties, Percentage Loss, and Battle Deaths, Generals Listed by West Point Class and Rank, Robert E.
