The first male panda bear in the San Diego Zoo s Giant Panda Conservation program had a problem he didn t like the food he was given at the Zoo. Shi Shi, the picky panda, didn t like the bamboo grown at the zoo and preferred one species of bamboo which grows at Quail Botanical Gardens in nearby Encinitas, California. This delightful story book, written for pre-school age children by Ruth Todd Evans, M.D., and accompanied by her charming watercolor-and-pen illustrations, is based on the true story of how Shi Shi s problem was finally solved. Published in cooperation with the San Diego Zoo and Quail Botanical Gardens, a portion of the proceeds from this book will benefit the Giant Panda Conservation Program and the new Children s Garden at Quail Botanical Gardens.
