A memoir with all the page-turning drama of a good novel, "Brick by Brick" is the true, rags-to-riches story of a high school dropout who takes up bricklaying on a whim and ends up paving her way to success as a entrepreneur in a man's world, battling prejudice and her own personal demons along the way. A gripping coming-of-age story starting in the gritty South End of New Bedford, Massachusetts in the 1970s.

Lynn Donohue was the first female in Bricklayers Union Local 39. After forming her own construction company, she moved on to becoming one of New England's top sales representatives in the masonry products industry (now working for a Providence, RI-based firm). She founded the Brick by Brick Foundation to help struggling teens in the greater New Bedford, Massachusetts area. She lives in Marion, Massachusetts with her two children.
id, you?ve got three strikes against you. You?re not strong enough, you?re not tall enough, and you?re a woman.? These fighting words might have stopped some women, but not Lynn Donohue. Instead, they fueled her determination to become a master bricklayer. Armed with nothing more than a passion for the work and a dream to succeed, she was willing to take the risk? Brick by Brick is not just a book about a bricklayer; it's an exploration of one woman's life journey. A journey that parallels many in her generation?from her tumultuous childhood to her hippie days living in an urban commune?from being trapped in a dead-end job to building a professional career. Her true-grit story brings a fresh perspective to growing up in small-city America. Lynn Donohue built her life brick by brick, and that's what makes this story so compelling. "?
