The high-quality objects of John Painter's collection are displayed in an exhibition at the Cincinnati Art Museum in 2002-2003, for which this is the catalog. Good-quality color plates feature cradles, knives and sheaths, necklaces, bags, and similar objects, all highly decorated and many dating before 1850, representing the handicraft of many Native American tribes, including Northern Plains, Cree, Cheyenne, Great Lakes, Seminole, Kiowa, and Seneca. Painter, who built his collection over the past 35 years, wrote the catalog entries. There is no index. Distributed by Orange Frazer Press. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
