Originalbroschur. Zustand: Gut. Unpag. Einband stärker berieben und vergilbt. Text auch Ivrit. - Joel Kantor began photographing in 1979 and was immediately attracted to the variety of character, dress and habit to be found in Israel. To capture unique aspects of his surrounding seemed a worth-while venture, and with an increasing awareness of the medium of photography, aesthetic values became of primary interest. In the first half of 1982 demonstrations broke out on the West Bank; the north Sinai town of Yamit was forcefully evacuated and then brutally destroyed; and soon Israel entered the tragic war in Lebanon. Kantor came to believe that there could be no document of modern Israel without a representation of these events, including the measures taken by army and police forces in maintaining the state of occupation in the West Bank and Gaza.
