Cathedrals & Parking Lots, Collected Poems by Clemens Starck. The book consists of the full text of six previous books by Mr. Starck as well as a section of new poems. Mr. Starck is known for 'work place' poems, having been a carpenter for thirty years, but many of the poems reflect his life experiences as a parent, a scholar, a Russian student, a traveler, a merchant marine, and a poet struggling to make ends meet with a series of difficult low-paying jobs. It's a book that portrays the full expanse of an interesting adult life, since Mr. Starck, who has written throughout his life didn't begin publishing poetry until he was already in his sixties. He's now eighty, and ready to see his life's work come to fruition with the publication of his collected poems. These galleys are being published six months prior to the release of the finished book, and we hope to have them in the hands of reviewers and publicists throughout the country in the very near future. Previous books by Mr. Starck, and the section titles of this collection are as follows: Journeyman's Wages (Story Line Press, 1995), Studying Russian on Company Time (Siverfish Review Press, 2016), China Basin (Story Line Press, 2002), Old Dogs, New Tricks (Oblio Press, 2016), and the chapbooks: At Sea (Tangram, 2008), Leaving Los Angeles (Urban Editions, 2001), Rembrandt Chainsaw (Wood Works, 2001) and Traveling Incognito (Wood Works, 2003).

Softcover. Zustand: As New. Leichte Abnutzungen. Poetry. In his early twenties, Clemens Starck dropped out of Princeton and decided to take responsibility for his own education--to read deeply, travel widely, and write poems with the precision and plainspoken-ness of the Chinese masters. Over the decades, he also kept his mind clear by making a living with his hands. CATHEDRALS & PARKING LOTS represents the work of a lifetime--poems of memorable clarity and substance based on actual experiences, whether standing lookout on the bow of a freighter, dismantling houses for a living, building a freeway overpass, or traveling to Russia and studying the language. Composed in the cadences of everyday speech, Starck's poems have the functional beauty of a Shaker chair--every word, every line, every image belongs. Artikel-Nr. f8a363fa-8945-49a3-820c-61e0ef16d1a6
