Between Chance and Choice: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Determinism - Hardcover

Drawn by destiny or driven by desire, a small international band of mathematicians, physicists, cognitive and social scientists, and philosophers of various persuasions found themselves in a castle by a lake south of Munich in June 2001. This volume comprises elaborated and refereed manuscripts of 22 of their lectures in which they discuss numerous aspects of determinism from their disciplinary perspectives. A brief preface is provided by the two editor-contributors: Atmanspacher (Max Planck Institute, Garching, among other affiliations) is a physicist with interest in nonlinear dynamics, complex systems, mind-matter problems, and some topics in the history and philosophy of science; and Bishop (affiliated with IGPP) researches in the areas of philosophy of science, conceptual foundations of physics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of social science.
