Colour paintings and b/w engravings throughout, bibliography, maroon end-papers. Cream boards, spine titled in gilt. Slight foxing and use, abrasions to several pages formerly adhering to one another, illustrations largely unaffected. Good in used, tape-repaired dust-wrapper. This is a good collection of illustrations presented in chrological order, illustrating Tunnicliffe's ouput as a book illustrator. Each illustration is accompanied by a short excerpt of the text which it illustrated. "This book covers the years between 1932 and 1977 when (Tunnicliffe) illustrated so many country books that in his old age he could never be sure just how many he had done. In fact, there were eighty-eight. He didn't accept every commission offered, but undertook only those books he felt he understood. .For many, black and white wood-engravings and scraperboards represent the best of Tunnicliffe's work. Their preference has been .well catered for in the present collection - because, of course, black-and-white accounted for the greater part of the artist's output as an illustrator."
