The bulk of this book consists of an explanatory commentary on the section of the new code of canon law which deals with religious orders and congregations, secular institutes, socities of apostolic life, hermits and consecrated virgins. Some of the commentary comes from the pen of Fr Collins, but most of it is by way of quotation from the relevant council documents and from the documents published after the council which further enlarged and expounded the council's teaching on religious life.
