Dr Rob Howarth is a founder of the Three Peaks yacht race, was medical advisor to both Virgin Atlantic Challenges and the chief doctor on the 1991 Everest Marathon.  He has been a crew member and the medical advisor to the Barmouth Lifeboat for over 20 years, and was awarded the RNLI Silver Medal for Bravery.

First Aid Afloat is aimed at the novice First-Aider, and is intended to be used at the time of the accident or illness. So each topic is designed to be read at a glance: the language is kept short and simple, and photo sequences show exactly what to do. As long as you can read, you can help.

Once you have made the victim comfortable, the book explains how you can call for assistance and hold the situation until the professionals arrive. There is also a section on survival, in case the unthinkable happens.
