Inhaltsangabe

With its famed foothills, historic Mother Lode region, and picturesque delta, California's capital and its surrounding area are an excellent hiking destination. But where to begin? Using author Jordan Summers' careful, hiking-based research, this useful guide introduces area residents and visitors to an array of the best day-hikes — from casual riverside nature walks to rugged foothill treks — within roughly an hour’s drive of the city. The book's detailed descriptions help hikers choose routes with concise, at-a-glance information that highlights details such as location, access, directions, distances, and scenery. There's also preparation advice to help hikers get the most from each outing. Extensive and precise maps, descriptive text, a wealth of black-and-white photos, and trailhead coordinates guide hikers on their way and keep them on-route.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Jordan Summers has had more fun sleeping on rock, snow, and dirt than any one person should be allowed. As a boy in Virginia, he would camp in the woods behind his house. Since then, he's spent absurd amounts of time in the three major ranges and many minor ones, and in forests, canyons, and deserts in every season and weather condition. From 2007 to 2009, Jordan hiked about 1,300 miles to research and write 60 Hikes within 60 Miles: Sacramento (first edition), Five-Star Trails around Lake Tahoe, and Easy Hikes Close to Home: Sacramento for Menasha Ridge Press. Jordan is an alumnus of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) Wilderness Outdoor Educator program, a Leave No Trace trainer, and an NOLS/Wilderness Medicine Institutecertified Wilderness First Responder. All of these affiliations help him pursue his passion: to help hikers of all abilities get out there, have a great time there, leave no trace there, and come home safely from there. A volunteer for the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, Jordan lives in the Sacramento suburb of Elk Grove, California, with his partner, Karin Connolly. Most importantly, he and Karin frequently get to hike with his children and grandchildren.
