Howard Zinn was Professor of Political Science at Boston University. He grew up in Brooklyn, one of four sons of a sometime waiter, window cleaner and pushcart peddler. He is A People's History of the United States in 1980. He received the Lannan Foundation Literary Award for Nonfiction and the Eugene V. Debs award for his writing and political activism.
