This report of the Institute for International Economics, edited by Posen (associated with the Institute since 1997), assesses the euro's functioning and development in terms of its advancement of European economic and regional objectives and in terms of the transatlantic relationship with the United States and the possibilities of a bipolar international monetary system. Contributions discuss the financial development of the eurozone and euro-dominated transactions vis-à- vis the US. They consider further actions necessary to support a strong euro and consider issues of financial stability in the eurozone, especially as related to the evolution of the Stability and Growth Pact. Possibilities of monetary and financial policy coordination among the world's major economies are also discussed. Biografía del autor
Adam S. Posen, the President of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, has specialized in macroeconomic and monetary policy, resolution of financial crises, central banking issues, and the economies of Western Europe, Japan, and the United States. Dr. Posen brings a distinctively global perspective to macroeconomic policy analysis and forecasting. He has written about the financial and economic challenges faced by the European Union following the adoption of the euro and the lasting impact of Japan's economic crisis of the 1990s, while providing counsel directly to the Japanese government in Tokyo. Leading up to the successful London G-20 summit of 2009 during the global financial crisis, he consulted for the UK Cabinet Office.
