This is the story of one man's discovery of the Episcopal Church as his spiritual home. Bishop Krumm tells what attracted and held him, from the time of his first exposure to its worship as a choir boy, which turns out to be one of the best apologias for being an Episcopalian in print today. The book covers everything from rite and ceremonial to doctrine and discipline, from organization to outreach. Bishop Krumm was working on the revision when he died, October 23, 1995.
I have been increasingly aware that the Episcopal Church has what seems to me an enormous advantage in interdenominational activities within non-Roman Christianity. In the first place, the problem of the character and life of the church is considered in Anglicanism to be a matter of the church is considered in Anglicanism to be a matter of the deepest importance. In contrast to certain other protestant churches of a more sectarian tradition, Anglicanism has always insisted that the life of the church and her sacraments must be thought of as necessary "means of grace." Church life is not an elective which a Christian may take on out of a sense of duty and responsibly but may omit without serious damage to his faith. The fact is he cannot really be a Christian apart from involvement in the community of believers.
