Di Leo was Director of the Developmental Clinic of the New York Foundling Hospital, Assistant Clinical Professor of-Pediatrics at New York University School of Medicine, and Lecturer in the Department of Special Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, New York City. He published extensively in the fields of child development, brain dysfunction, ,md children's drawings.
