Ivan Collins, an Oregon genius, researched, planned, and built 62 of the most accurate, meticulous, and beautiful model horse-drawn vehicles to be found anywhere. Collins focused his considerable artistry on 1/8 scale vehicles that helped to settle the western United States. Collins's Brougham, Concord coach, Albany sleigh, phaeton, omnibus, Victoria, medicine wagon, and other models have enchanted visitors to the exhibit of his models at the Oregon Historical Society in Portland for over three decades. This book is a catalogue of Collins's works, with photographs of each model, model dimensions, and brief information about the model and the historical vehicle it represents. It also includes an overview of Collins's life and work and sample details of several of his plans.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine in Fine DJ. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: dj. PHOTOGRAPHS (illustrator). FIRST EDITION. Quarto (11 1/4 in. x 9 in). Forest Green cloth-over boards with gilt lettering to top board and spine. A gorgeously produced and loving (if unflinching) history of an Oregon timber company which started as a bootstraps family-run operation and through the intelligence and tenacity of its founding members and successors, rose to become one of the most important such ventures in the Pacific Northwest, a state and national economic force in its own right. A meticulously researched work, of major historical importance to any understanding of the complex timber industry, Oregon, and The Pacific Northwest. This copy inscribed and/or signed by four people intimately involved with the history of this famous Oregon timber venture: 1) author Michael Thoele on title page; 2) L.L. "Stub" Stewart. Loren LaSells "Stub" Stewart (January 10, 1911 - January 2, 2005) was the owner and president of the Bohemia Lumber Company and a state representative from Oregon House District 14; 3) Wayne Chambers who worked for forty years as a forester with Bohemia Mining Company, cruising timber sales, designing logging roads, and a number of other assignments, including tracking down spotted owls, and helping balloon logging become part of the industry; 4) S.E. (Strayer Edward) "Pitt" Pittman (1923-2008) worked his way up the ranks from an entry-level job as an office clerk, to a spot in Bohemia's sales department, a position of Vice President of Sales, and later, a place as President and CEO of the company.
