CALVIN GOLDSCHEIDER is professor emeritus of sociology and Ungerleider Professor Emeritus of Judaic Studies at Brown University. His most recent books include Israel's Changing Society: Population Ethnicity, and Development, Studying the Jewish Future, and, co-authored with Jeffrey M. Green, A Typical Extraordinary Jew: From Tarnow to Jerusalem.
