Mailloux (English, U. of California-Irvine) presents histories of English studies, speech communication, and rhetoric-composition, and shows how they can be done from the interdisciplinary perspective of rhetorical studies. There have been many separate histories of these disciplines, he says, but his parallel histories encourage dialogue among teachers and scholars within the larger field of language arts.
