Allen narrates the historic organizations success, beginning shortly after the Civil War with baseballs rising popularity among Cincinnatis elite. Eventually, as interest increased, Americas first professional baseball team was established in 1868Cincinnatis Red Stockings.The Cincinnati Reds chronicles each season from the organizations early years, most notably the 1882 American Association pennant and the 1919 and 1940 National League pennants and World Series championships, including the infamous Chicago White Sox scandal. Allen retells many of the early Reds stories likely forgotten or unknown by todays fans. This book is as thorough as it is absorbing and will be enjoyed by those interested in the early days of Americas favorite pasttime.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Lee Allen served as the historian for the Baseball Hall of Fame. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, he served as director of publicity for the Cincinnati Reds; wrote for the Cincinnati Times Star, Cincinnati Enquirer, and Sporting News; and authored numerous books on baseball.
