Electronic news gathering (ENG) and electronic field production (EFP) are used for broadcasting, in production, and in corporate and educational settings. ENG encompasses several categories: spot news, general news, feature news and sports news. EFP is professional portable video not for broadcast or ENG. If you want to enter either of these fields, this is the book for you.
ENG and EFP are both used for high-quality video production using portable equipment because it is easily transported, lighter than studio cameras and can give acceptable video images with less lighting than studio cameras. Although video technology continues to evolve and increase in complexity, the fundamental principles of video remain the same.
Much of the same equipment is used, and many of the same standards, theories and techniques are put into practice in both ENG and EFP. However, the two disciplines are very different from each other. They are executed under different conditions and the results are not always achieved in the same way.
Portable Video discusses all of the different aspects that apply to both ENG and EFP. Specifically Portable Video ENG and EFP, 2nd edition details: processing an image into video: lenses, camera and video tape recorders; microphones and audio recording techniques; light, lights and lighting; the basic shots - with audio, lighting and editing techniques; scriptwriting, pre-production and pricing for ENG and EFP; copyright and legal issues; and new trends and technologies.
Complementing the text are a glossary of terms and bibliography. There are many illustrations, diagrams, examples and checklists.
