Off the Sheep's Back

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. 1st Edition. A good clean copy with a crease in the cover. An autobiography of a pioneering New Zealand farmer, bushman and champion shearer, recalling a rural way of life that had largely disappeared by the time the book was written. Raised when establishing a farm meant clearing dense native bush and coping with considerable isolation and hardship, Richards recounts the challenges of farming and country life. Despite an injured wrist, he developed an unusual shearing technique using his legs to control the sheep, enabling him to compete successfully, set numerous records and become well known within New Zealand's shearing community.
