Homer is the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, and is revered as the greatest of ancient Greek epic poets. These epics representthe beginning of the Western canon, and have had an enormous influence on the history of literature.

Homer is known only as theauthor of the The Iliad and The Odyssey, the two epic poems of theTrojan War and its aftermath that mark the birth of Western culture. Nothing isknown of his life.



J.A. Harrison was Assistant Classical Master at the Methodist College, Belfast, ireland, and co-edited Homer: Iliad Books I and VI with R.H. Jordan (both published by Bloomsbury).

R.H. Jordan was Head of Classics and Senior Vice Principal of the Methodist College Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK; and editor of Virgil: Aeneid, Books II and X, and co-editor (with J.A. Harrison) of Homer: Iliad, Books I and VI (all published by Bloomsbury).
