This report consitutes one of the outputs of a three-year DETR research project "Future Studies in Sustainable Construction". Aims to make a contribution to the identification of the pressures driving sustainable development, while serving as a resource for future research. It highlights gaps in our knowledge and the need for additional work to analyse and understand the complex releationships between the different factors/pressures.
