Scott was the largest and most successful publishing house in the British Isles during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The company published a wide range of books, including classics, religious texts, and works on science and mathematics. In 1802, Scott merged with another Edinburgh publishing house, but within a few years it was forced to close because of financial problems.
