Combining the creative perspectives of filmmakers with more analytic academic methods, this study invites film students to take an active approach in learning to understand how audiovisual language is used to create meaning in films. Elaine Scarratt is an Associate Tutor of the British Film Institute, Assistant Examiner of A Level Media Studies for one of the English awarding bodies, a freelance media advisor, a writer of Film and Media Studies textbooks/resources, and Visiting Tutor for London Metropolitan University.
