This collection of essays addresses post-1985 Russian culture. Based on papers presented at a conference on contemporary Russian culture, held at the School of Slavonic Studies and at the British Film Institute in London in 1993, this book places particular emphasis on visual culture, especially film and television. Essays include studies of television coverage of the August putsch, Russian cultural politics since perestroika, Muratova's films and Govorukhin's documentaries.
