Description This is a handbook of management skills for general practitioners and other Primary Care workers who find themselves, perhaps unexpectedly, in management positions. The book, conceived during the 2002 RCGP Leadership Programme, is not a manual of practice management C rather it focuses on useful techniques and methods for the day-to-day management of people, projects and organisations. This is a skills-based book and after reading each chapter, the reader should have the confidence to (R)have-a-go Z, or at least have developed an insight as to how things might go better next time! Readership The Handbook is orientated towards Primary Care rather than General Practice, although many of the chapters are written specifically with the GP in mind. Issues such as appraisal, organisational development, change management and team working are relevant to all GPs, as well as colleagues from other disciplines working in Primary Care.
About the editor Tim Swanwick has a broad range of experience in general practice education and educational management. Currently a Director of Postgraduate General Practice Education in the London Deanery, Tim is also a member of the panel of examiners of the Royal College of General Practitioners, sits on the editorial board of Education for Primary Care and writes widely on all aspects of general practice education and training. Recent publications include The General Practice Journey (2003) and The Study Guide for General Practice Training (2003).
