It will be of particular interest to the production engineer, coping with day to day problems, the designer and the student. The book is based on many years' practical experience of the use of adhesives in a wide range of industries. The realities of 'shop-floor' conditions are acknowledged, so too is the performance of bonded components in demanding environments. Particular attention is paid to the nature, use and function of adhesives and the problems of selecting the most appropriate type for a specific application. In this latter context, the book is unique in that it has been prepared in such a manner that it may be used with a companion computer program, whose function is to sort through the millions of permutations created by the interaction of material, component design, production conditions and the ultimate performance. The program is available in a form suitable for Apple, BBC and IBM microcomputers. While there is a general section dealing with design in the widest sense, this has been supplemented by a special section dealing with the specific role of adhesives in mechanical engineering.
