This exciting new text contains material relating to the need for and use of the macronutrients. The basic sciences are incorporated into the text, and clinical examples are used to illustrate the importance of particular steps in the metabolic pathways. While the primary animal of interest is the human, other species are studied in order to gain knowledge through interspecies comparisons. There is a strong undercurrent of genetics to illustrate both abnormalities in nutrient use and the tremendous variability in nutrient needs and tolerances.
