This lavishly illustrated volume celebrates the three performers known collectivley as Mummenschanz. Trained in classical mime, they have expanded traditional techniques and utilized unusual props and costumes to create a unique theatrical experience. Buhrer, who has been associated with the troupe for several years, provides biographies of the performers and recounts the history of their collaboration, focusing in particular on the creation of a new program for a 1984 U.S. tour. Some readers may find the consistently adulatory tone of the text cloying, but the photographs provide a rare opportunity to see an extraordinary troupe at work.
