There is no question that the design of a library affects the experience of its users. With its no-nonsense checklist format, this completely revised manual literally walks readers through their buildings and facilities, spotlighting critical design and safety points along the way. A must-have resource for library planners, librarians, architects, and all members of the design team, the Checklist will help you to evaluate your current space, analyze each design element as it relates to space and function in the library, make decisions ranging from shelving finishes to technology equipment, and satisfy the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. New to this edition are sections on ""green"" (environmentally correct) design approaches, assessment of current facilities and alternatives to new construction, young adult and children's spaces, remote storage, and technology advancements. With more than 1,500 questions that will help you avoid expensive mistakes, the Checklist will give you everything you need to: Identify potential problem areas in your design. Enhance the overall library environment by committing to ""green design."" Incorporate technology safely and efficiently. Update children's library spaces based on the latest innovations. Adaptable to any type of library, you'll have a ready source of supporting data for presentations to community groups and stakeholders and to your library users with this new edition of the Checklist!
