What distinguishes this hefty new bibliography is its scope. Attempt is made to include every English-language book and periodical on Anglo-American popular music published through 1984. The 5276 selectively annotated entries are arranged into seven broad categories: music, biography, technical, the music business, product, literary works, and periodicals. Where appropriate within categories arrangement is topical; e.g., under "music" there are 20 separate sections by genre. Since the index is to authors, anyone looking to confirm a title must knowledgeably search through the table of contents to find the right section. As with any work this ambitious there are bound to be omissions, but overall Iwaschkin is to be commended for gathering together so many titles on such a huge subject in one volume.
