The Authors: Carolyn M. Shields received her Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Saskatchewan. She is currently Professor of educational leadership in the Department of Educational Studies at University of British Columbia and founding director of the School Leadership Centre. She has written over seventy-five articles and two books: Year-Round Schooling: Promises and Pitfalls and Good Intentions are Not Enough: Transformative Leadership for Communities of Difference.
Russell Bishop is Foundation Professor and Assistant Dean for Maori Education in the School of Education at the University of Waikato. He has published two books, Collaborative Research Stories and Whakawhanaungatanga and Culture Counts: Changing Power Relationships in Classrooms (co-authored with T. Glynn) as well as many articles. He is currently Director of a Ministry of Education project that seeks to improve the educational achievement of Maori students in mainstream classrooms.
André Elias Mazawi is Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Studies, Faculty of Education, University of British Columbia. With Orit Ichilov, he co-authored Between Church and State: The Life History of a French Catholic School in Jaffa (Peter Lang, 1996), and Dr. Mazawi also has written numerous articles and book chapters.
