Buchbeschreibung Original hardcover. Zustand: Sehr gut. VIII, 96 p. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Allover very good condition. - Contents: Tradition and Ideology -- 'Disturbance' in Tradition -- 'Disturbance' in Contemporary Ideology -- Hesychia in Pindar -- Pindaric Hesychia and Athenian Apragmones -- Stasis and Hesychia (Theognis 39-52) -- Rapprochement Between the Knights and the Demos -- Alternate Ideology -- Cleon in Wasps -- Aristophanes' Politics. -- Knights has received a good share of literary-critical attention. Several sensitive readings bring us closer to the poetic and dramatic qualities of the play. Detailed studies of comic techniques specific to Aristophanes and/or Old Comedy are available, and the formal and metrical designs nave received thorough analysis. One could complain only of the lack of an up-to-date text and commentary. Alan H. Sommerstein provides a new text, with a brief apparatus criticus and commentary, and, in the form of a translation with stage directions, an important new reading of the play. The lack will be substantially repaired, within a few years, by the edition of Knights that Jeffrey Henderson will contribute to the Oxford series of Aristophanic comedies.
