Grade 3-5 The self-styled ``Treasure Hounds'' are three children whose hobby is searching for treasurea hobby which almost invariably involves them in a mystery. In The Case of the Slippery Sharks , the Hounds go snorkeling in search of sunken treasure, aided by their friend Captain Jib. In The Mummy's Secret , some hieroglyphics found in an old locket are a clue to a lost treasure. In The Secret Gold Mine , they go in search of cantankerous Hermit John, who is rumored to know the whereabouts of a fortune in gold. In Secret of the Old Mansion, they are hired by feuding siblings to find their aunt's lost treasure. Despite their avowed purpose of treasure hunting, the Treasure Hounds seldom reap much financial reward from their cases, but they always solve the mysteries, generally doing one or more good deeds in the process. Each case features amusing and eccentric characters, some of whom are completely unbelievable. At the end of each story, a brief note tells about some real hidden treasures. It's a nice touch, albeit a trifle gimmicky. Morrill's line drawings often feature a touch of humor. Good, clean fun that should be popular with mystery fans.
