Essential Cell Biology provides an accessible introduction to the fundamental concepts of cell biology. Its engaging writing and exceptional illustrations make it an easy-to-follow, clear textbook ideal for a first course in cell and molecular biology. Molecular detail has been kept to a minimum in order to provide the reader with a cohesive, conceptual framework of the basic science that underlies our current understanding of biology.
This Edition is thoroughly updated scientifically, yet maintains the academic level and size of the previous edition. The cell cycle and cell division chapters have been combined for greater efficiency. "How We Know" sections in every chapter introduce experimental science by explaining both the methods and scientific intuition of classical and current experiments. To promote active learning, each chapter includes questions in the margins that complement the text, and an additional set of questions conclude each chapter. Answers to all questions are available at the back of the book. In addition to questions, each chapter ends with a review of essential concepts and key terms. The book is accompanied by a DVD with all the figures from the book, 130 animations and videos, and a self-test quizzing feature.
