Every surgeon owns at least one of the large textbooks of surgery because of their comprehensive treatment of the subject, however, these texts devote only limited space to treatment, and these sections rapidly become dated. Current Surgical Therapy provides the general surgeon with a text focusing entirely on surgical management, and this sixth edition brings in the latest state-of-the-art information. Current Surgical Therapy, 6/e, consists of 254 brief chapters. Each chapter deals with the treatment of a condition that is seen with some frequency by general surgeons. Contributors were chosen not only for their prominence in the field but also (and more importantly) because they are actively involved in patient care. Chapters follow a similar outline, covering patient selection, timing of therapy, preoperative care, operative technique, postoperative management, adjuvant therapy, prevention and management of complications, and follow-up. Diagnosis and pathophysiology are covered only to the extent that they affect treatment choices.
