This first volume in a five-volume series covers the preface and first chapters of Luke's Gospel. Aus dem Klappentext

The Gospel of Luke was probably written for a Christian community or a cluster of house churches in an Eastern Mediterranean city. Thus, when Luke speaks of the poor, he refers primarily to the urban poor of his time. This makes his gospel especially relevant to the urban poor of today's Third World. The Third Gospel for the Third World, a series of commentaries on the Gospel of Luke, focuses on the gospel's pastoral implications for a Third World setting. While primarily using the historical-critical method, Father Hendrickx considers questions raised by sociological, anthropological, cultural, feminist, and other recent approaches to the gospels; he also considers recent findings of literary criticism. Highlighted topics include family, tribe, clan, the conditions of peasant life, honor, and shame. This first volume in this five-volume series covers the preface and first chapters of Luke's Gospel. Subsequent volumes will be: The Ministry in Galilee (Luke 3:1-9:50); The Travel Narrative-I (Luke 9:51-14:35); The Travel Narrative-II (Luke 15:1-19:44); and Jerusalem Ministry-Passion-Resurrection (Luke 19:45-24:53). The Third Gospel for the Third World makes available to all committed Christians?from all over the world?a biblical commentary that ties the third gospel to current Third World situations.?Amidst the plethoric output of studies on Luke?s infancy narrative, a new commentary, written within Third World perspectives, manages to bring fresh air into what could be considered an overinterpreted area. . . . We look forward to the next volumes of a commentary that will provide further material for dialogue within and without the Third World.? Journal of Biblical Literature
