Architect Donald Macdonald designed the Golden Gate Bridge's current tollbooths and bike rail, set the guidelines for it's retrofit, and is at the centre of the discussion around the subject of the proposed suicide barrier design. Donald MacDonald is the first architect to work on the Golden Gate Bridge since the original consulting architects John Eberson and Irving F. Morrow. He has also been instrumental in the discussion of a possible suicide barrier for the bridge. Ira Nadel is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and recipient of numerous awards and prizes. He has lectured around the world and is the author of a number of books, including biographies of James Joyce, Leonard Cohen, Tom Stoppard, and Ezra Pound.
