Buchbeschreibung Zustand: Sehr gut. 235 S. Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - There are those who claim that LE BRUN is the greatest of the French painters. Others say that he was an inspired master gifted with superior powers. There is no doubt that the First Painter to King LOUIS XIV had many devoted admirers. But any important figure is sooner or later discredited by an opposing ideological movement of some kind. The main purpose of this book is to view LE BRUN through the eyes of the time in which he lived in order to better appreciate him. To this end, author Michel Gareau traces the main currents in LE BRUN's life, drawing largely on the publications and documents of his time, such as the manuscripts of Nivelon (one of LEBRUN's students), which were given to LOUIS XIV. Damaged by the passage of three centuries, these old texts were painstakingly deciphered. The author is pleased to present several previously unpublished extracts from these manuscripts in the biographical section of the book. In the second section, the author focuses on the painter's philosophy and technique as revealed in the production of his works. This is followed by a series of drawings that illustrate the different processes used by LE BRUN in painting, decoration, furniture design, sculpture, and architecture. In the final section, the author presents a selection of paintings that exemplify LE BRUN'S work, along with detailed notes.
