Each chapter contains dialogues (ren­contres), grammar, vocabulary, exer­cises, and written and oral composition. The rencontres are nonsequential dia­logues intended to develop the student’s fluency in a variety of meaningful situa­tions. Grammar is presented inductive­ly through exercises and examples of structural patterns. Each chapter con­tains vocabulary, and is divided accord­ing to grammatical function. Cognates and deceptive cognates are listed sepa­rately.

In addition, comprehensive appen­dixes provide lists of auxiliary and regu­lar and irregular verbs and extensive French-English and English-French vo­cabularies.
