This is a collection of nineteen essays on race relations at mid-century, written in honor of the late Robert E. Park. Park left import sociological concepts that still stand the test of time--folk or sacred versus modern or secular society, racial frontiers, social distance, the marginal man, racial conflict, and racial movement. The contributors came directly under Park's influence either as students or colleagues.
