In these nine essays, contributors, who are professors of education, learning, and technology at universities mainly in the US, detail ways to make the use of technology in the classroom a meaningful activity. The chapters are drawn from papers given at a symposium in May of 2002 as part of Project TIME (Technology Integrated into Meaningful Learning Experiences), conducted at Michigan schools and funded by a grant from the US Department of Education. Contributors describe important attributes of meaningful learning, using technology for understanding, science instruction, and in history and social studies. Also discussed are using it with professional development and the importance of knowledge of technology. Ashburn is director of Project TIME and the Battle Creek Teaching American History Project, holds degrees in educational psychology, and is a former high school English teacher. Floden is professor of teacher education, educational psychology, and measurement and quantitative methods at Michigan State U. Annotation ©2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
